Abstract

MEDIANEIRA PADOIN, Maria  and  ALMEIDA PEREIRA, Alessandro de. The Republic ideas and the participation of priests at the Farroupilha Revolution (1835-45). Andes [online]. 2014, vol.25, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

This study is part of the activities carried out by the Research Group CNPq /UFSM and the Committee "History, Regions and Boundaries" of AUGM. The Farroupilha Revolution, that occurred from 1835 to 1845, involved different representations of the society. However, in spite of being a  subject frequently studied by historiography priets' participation still lacks explanations. From research in historiography and documents (such as the Varela Collection, the Proceedings of Municipalities, Baptisms books and newspapers), we noticed that the priests had a decisive participation, especially in the educational and religious formation, with direct participation in the administration and in the constitution of the Rio-Grande Republic, including the representation in government jobs and in the "Farroupilha church". In this sense, we emphasize the republic ideas for the fearroupinha elite.
