Abstract

PARRA, María Graciana. Formation of National Democratic Party and the campaign of 1931 in Tucumán. Andes [online]. 2014, vol.25, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

This paper aims to inquire about the process of reorganization of provincial conservative forces that gave birth to the Democratic Party, once produced the Revolution of 1930. This provincial political group joined after entering excellent relationships with its  national counterparts, the National Democratic Party (PDN) which brought together the provincial conservative forces. At the national level, the PDN was established quantitatively as the most important party in favor of the official force, regained the control of most of the provincial political contexts and obtained a major national parliamentary representation. This process of revival of conservatism did not happen  in Tucuman; in fact, the democrats went through a series of problems within its ranks which made it impossible for them to achieve the electoral victory in the 1931 elections. The issue chosen for this analysis focuses on the alliances and conflicts for power within the organization, an important subject to understand the party formation process and its participation in the election campaign mentioned. This process was characterized by the existence of various oppositions among its members, as manifested ,on the one hand, in  the confrontation between "traditionalists" and "reformers", and on the other,  in the struggle among the various forces that gave rise to the party. As a result, the PDN of Tucuman was founded as a force without cohesion, disorganized and fragmented, with the constant threat of dissolution and unable to achieve an electoral victory.
