Abstract
RODRIGUEZ, Ana María T.. The battles for laicism in the argentine south territories: A dispute around religious schools (1890-1920). Andes [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.
In this paper we analyze the conceptions of laicism in the actors who built the educational system in new societies like the ones in the Argentine south. There, the religious re-composition acquired modalities different from those of former colonized areas. The study is limited to the last decade of the nineteenth century and the first two of the twentieth century, a period when the State educational system was established and the laicism process, supported by the Law 1.420, was not finished yet. We study the tensions between the Argentine National Council of Education -an entity with some secular tradition- and the Salesians of Don Bosco. We focus our research on one of the historical milestones considered by the Catholic Church like a sort of "battle" against the laicism: the education in the Patagonia. We analyze the debate promoted by one public officer, Dr. J. B. Zubiaur - that was published in "Las Escuelas del Sud, informe presentado por el Vocal del Consejo Nacional de Educación, Buenos Aires Aires, 1906 (official publication) - and the reply written by the priest Pedro Marabini -"The Salesians of the South (Argentine Republic). Work and Riches. Reply to the report "The Schools of the South" by Dr. J.B. Zubiaur, vocal of the National Education Council ", Buenos Aires, Escuela Tip. Colegio Pio IX, 1906.
