Abstract

OLISZEWSKI, Denisse. The reproduction of the practice of folk healers in urban areas of greater San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina. Andes [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

The present article seeks to identify those interactions that support the practice of folk healers in urban areas of Greater San Miguel de Tucuman facilitating its existence and reproduction. As a brief introduction we explain what we mean when we speak of popular healers in the city. Besides, we make some theoretical considerations mainly related to the importance of analyzing practices of popular culture not only from the power relations with official culture, but also of observing their functioning when hegemony is not present. Then, the paper analyses the mechanisms that affect practice reproduction in a direct way, both the mechanisms related to users (ways in which people have access to the healer) as well as the therapist`s place of knowledge (the way in which he/she becomes a healer).

Keywords : Healers; Reproduction; Position of knowing; Popular medicine.
