Abstract

PALAMARCZUK, Valeria. Archaeological research in El Colorado, southern Yocavil, Catamarca, Argentina. Andes [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

The first results of archaeological research in El Colorado locality, Yocavil Valley, Province of Catamarca, are presented. This paper considers unpublished research background and the first results of field work, focusing, in a first step, on the archaeological record of the surface. Residential and productive architectural complexes, isolated structures and burial areas were identified by teledetections and field surveys. The architectural and pottery styles, and other materials observed, account for a very prolonged occupation of the small-scale sector, from formative to contemporary times. Work on El Colorado can integrate a little known area into the analysis of the peopling and the development of agro-pastoral settlements in southern Yocavil.

Keywords : Yocavil valley; Settlement; Archaeological landscape; Early period-Formative period; Late period; Subactual facilities.
