Abstract

CHIAPPE, Carlos María. Philippi's viage, the andean studies and the issue of national boundaries : (Chile, nineteenth century). Andes [online]. 2017, vol.28, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

The reader is placed in the historical-geographical evolution of the Andean area of Chile, presenting also the problems of the borders of Norte Grande during the nineteenth century. A bibliographic review is carried out and a taxonomy is proposed according to the orientation of the scientific publications on the region. From the multiplicity of works, it is postulated that Chilean Andean studies of this period were predominantly related to the geopolitical issues. The focus is put on works related to the borders issue from an approach to Rodulfo Philippi´s work. It shows a relationship between the intellectual production and the political situation of the consolidation of the national State.

Keywords : Norte Grande; Andean studies; Geopolitics; Nineteenth century; National states.
