Abstract

CORBELLE, Florencia. The concept of "responsible drug user" in the political praxis of the users of illegal substances of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Andes [online]. 2017, vol.28, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

In Argentina, the struggle for drug users' rights engages a wide array of civil society associations and organizations that advocate for a more "fair, humane and effective" but, fundamentally, respectful of human rights drug law. This article discusses in particular how drug users have organized to demand a change in the regulations and denounce the law enforcement practices that they enable, focusing, to that effect, in the concept of "responsible drug users" and how it shapes the ways - especially collective actions- in which these activists do politics. Thus, this paper goes beyond those proposals that consider drug users as mere victims to account for the way in which these activists have politicized this conflict.

Keywords : Drugs; Activism; Responsible drug users; Buenos Aires; Argentina.
