Abstract
ZELADA, Virginia. Delivery and distribution of denaturalized indians in Cordoba: Promises, regulations and government dispositions about the Calchaquí "issue", 1659-1693. Andes [online]. 2018, vol.29, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.
In this article we propose an approach to the forms of delivering encomiendas ofdenaturalized Indians of the Calchaquí valley in the jurisdiction of Córdoba and their relation with government regulations and dispositions for delivery conditions. This approach was possible due to the analysis of an unpublished document, contemporary to the Visit of the Audience Judge of Charcas, Luján de Vargas (1693). It started with the Auto of 1693 of the Governor Martín de Jáuregui. Where by it was ordered all the residents of the governance to come forward with their encomienda titles and real confirmations, in order to control the possible existence of third lives without real confirmation and irregularities around the possession of encomiendas in the governance. For a detailed approach to this order, we incorporated the analysis of other governors’ dispositions in relation to the ways of living and conditions under which these encomiendas were delivered. Specifically, we analyzed four Autos on the matter, given by the Governor Mercado and Villacorta. In this sense, we propose the hypothesis of the existence of "extra-legal" mechanisms to obtain new encomiendas of denaturalized Indians, or to annex Indians, or to extend the duration of encomiendas already granted.
