Abstract

EIRIS, Ariel Alberto. PARTICIPACIÓN DE LA COMUNIDAD EN LA “ELECCIÓN DE OBISPOS”: LA DISERTACIÓN DE PEDRO JOSÉ AGRELO EN LA UNIVERSIDAD DE CHUQUISACA EN 1803. Andes [online]. 2022, vol.33, n.1, pp.14-16. ISSN 1668-8090.

The lawyer Pedro José Agrelo made a dissertation on the election of bishops at the University of Chuquisaca in order to receive a doctorate in canons. The discourse hasn’t been analyzed so far and constitutes a source that can contribute new elements to the study of the teaching and uses of regalism in the River Plate territory. There, the lawyer argued the need for the community to participate in the appointment of the bishop, to avoid arbitrariness, which was defended within the languages promoted by the Bourbon system, although it was not entirely consistent with the general logic of absolutism that those they defended, which forced him to integrate absolutist regalism with the principle of community participation.

Keywords : Pedro José Agrelo; Regalism; Election of Bishops; University of Chuquisaca.
