Abstract

NIELSEN, Axel E.. Prehispanic occupation in the agropastoral stage at the Vilama Lake (Jujuy, Argentina. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2003, n.20, pp.81-108. ISSN 1668-8104.

This paper presents preliminary results of archaeological research conducted in Vilama, Coruto, and other lake basins located near the international border between Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile. The goal of this research is to understand the changes experienced by the forms of exploitation of complementary resources from the high Andean environment and by long-distance trade between the Puna of Jujuy and the Atacama Desert during the prehispanic agro-pastoral stage. Thus far, the project has demonstrated the seasonal presence of Puna groups devoted mainly to hunting since the Formative Period and the existence of caravan traffic during the Regional Developments and Inka Periods.

Keywords : Agropastoral Stage; Complementary Resources.
