Tropical spastic paraparesis in an homogenous clinical entity spread far and wide, Japan, Antillas, Senegal and America do the principal descriptions, as it is endemic there. The cardinal neurologic manifestations of the infection for the virus HTLV-1 human T- cell lymphoytopic virus type I is a progressive spastic paraparesis with genital sphincters troubles, called associated myelopathy HTLV 1 or Tropical spastic paraparesis We tried to characterize PET/HAM in our territory and know its distribution in patients seen at Jujuy. The diagnosis was carried out through clinical analysis by detecting htlv 1 antibodies, and in some cases through radio image, in a non-probable sample accidentally kin 28 patients during 2 years. We pathology was frequent in native women in family groups. The frequency is high between women aged 30 and 60 years old. They go to the hospital due to difficulty in walking and troubles in the sphincters. It is also found in a significant number of patients that have received blood transfusion It appears frequently in the North of the province (8), in the capital of the province (6), in the "ramal" (4), in the other provinces (3). The evolution varies; at the age of 10 a third percentage needs help to movee. We may conclude that our region should me taken under consideration taking into account the feminine population between 30 and 60 years of age with (PET/HAM) due to the epidemiologic characteristics of the region.
