Abstract

A case of occupation and territorial appropriation linked to the process of urban transformation in Salta. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2015, n.48, pp.65-85. In recent decades in Salta, there have been a number of general changes, which have resulted in processes of urban transformation, generating the proliferation of new forms of access to land. An example of this is the neighborhood Gauchito Gil, which emerged through illegal land occupation. The main objective of this study is to understand the process of building the collective identity of the neighborhood, investigating the social representations in force, in connection to the processes of occupation and territorial appropriation, and communication strategies. A qualitative approach is proposed for interpreting practices neighbors using in-depth interviews and participant observation. The research is part of the field of communication and culture, as significant aspects of human life where they are produced, exchanged and traded symbolic forms. The analysis aims to contribute to the understanding of the functioning and organization of the city in general. It tries to show how in recent decades there have been changes in the spatial structure of the city, which has made the emergence of new forms of access to land and therefore many families looking for a house settled uninhabitable land. It is thus that these social groups were crossed by precarious conditions. This contributes, in understanding and visibility of the operation and organization of the city of Salta; collaborating to study current issues / local relevance
