Abstract

SENTINELLI, Natalia. Technological practices and lithic raw materials in a domestic context in the Cajón Valley (Santa María, Catamarca). Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2016, n.49, pp.175-197. ISSN 1668-8104.

This paper presents part of the results from the study of knapped lithic materials recovered in a structure (E1) of the archaeological site Cardonal (Dept. Santa María, Catamarca), which was interpreted as a kitchen. The analyses aimed the reconstruction and understanding of some aspects of the lithic technological practices which were carried on in this context, during part of the first millennium of the era.             From a concept of technology as habitus, and from an analytical approach of a technical-morphological kind, both material aspects of the lithic production and others related to the ways of doing and recurrent technological practices, were analyzed.             While a wide variety of lithic resources was registered in E1, this work focuses on a variety of basalt (Bs1) and quartz, which are the two raw materials that show markedly predominant frequencies within the analyzed lithic assemblage. However, a number of differences between them it was observed, in regard to their potential availabilities, relative frequencies of use, knapping techniques, their use within lithic production activities and the final products obtained.             This situation could be showing that Bs1 basalt and quartz were involved in different technological practices related to various ways of doing and technological habitus
