Family violence is a serious social problem in Argentina and raises many questions around its causes and, above all else, the means to solve it. This paper is part of a larger investigation that proposes the realization of a diagnosis of the situation of family violence in Argentine history. However, in this advance, special emphasis is placed on the violence exerted by the husbands towards their wives, based on a sample of judicial documents corresponding to the period 1785-1829. These documents are synthetically described, with the accompaniment of bibliography, to make some final reflections
