Abstract

The work aims to contribute to the understanding of the transformations in the social relations in rural areas due to the creation of secondary schools in the countryside, driven by the extension of compulsory school in Argentina. For this purpose, an ongoing investigation carried out under the ethnographic approach in the department of La Paz, in the north of the province of Entre Ríos (Argentina). Studies contributions are considered that pointed out the conflicts between families and schools at different moments in history, as well as the importance of the local actors’ involvement in the development of education and school institution in rural environments. The argumentation is organized from the narrative of two episodes experienced in the secondary school of the colony, which points out conflicts related to the transformations of the teachers’ trajectories and generate new tensions with the families, and the disputes with the family and authorities for the decision-making. From the identification of young people’s and teachers’ unique practices and experiences , the work reaches to the conclusion that it is necessary to consider the heterogenous and elective appropriations of the compulsory school, considering to the differences and inequalities of the secondary school in a particular space and historical moment.
