Abstract
TOYOS, Fernando. Middle sectors and political corruption: Illegitimate means of upward mobility, individual merit and status. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2020, n.58, pp.161-180. ISSN 1668-8104.
In the past few decades, we have witnessed the construction of corruption as a public issue, in both global and Argentinean agendas. Being an issue of proven political productivity, in the 1990 decade as well as in the 2003-2015 period, this aspect has not been the subject of a more systematic approach. In this work we will analyse the social representations of corruption using data from two focus groups carried out in the city of Buenos Aires by the end of 2018, to understand social representations of the porteños middle sectors regarding political corruption. With the aforementioned data, we will observe the way corruption is represented as an illegitimate medium for upward mobility. Furthermore, we will try to relate the latter with the relationship between status and individual merit
