Abstract

ESPINDOLA, R.S; BARRERA, M.R  and  BARRERA, A.M. Tipificación de productores de vinos caseros y análisis sociocultural del sector en la ciudad de Caucete, provincia de San Juan. RIA. Rev. investig. agropecu. [online]. 2013, vol.39, n.3, pp.297-304. ISSN 1669-2314.

The viticulture is considered an alternative to the economic development of rural families. The objectives of this study were to characterize the home winemaking sector socioculturally, to build a typology, to identify ways of marketing and to detect the main constraints of the activity. This research was conducted with a group of home winemakers from Caucete, San Juan, Argentina. We evaluated 17 cases (processors) through surveys. The data collected were classified and grouped systematically, constituting variables: a) social, b) family c) cultural, and d) economic. We used SPSS version 15.0, with descriptive and cluster analysis. According to the study results, home wine making is carried out as a secondary activity, which uses family labor and local resources available for product realization. The activity is represented mostly by wine makers over 20 years of experience in the business who are not enrolled in the National Wine Institute. Their marketing mechanisms are scarce, therefore they fail to place the product on larger commercial circuits. The restrictions they have such as the lack of vessels, machinery, physical space, marketing and financial resources, cause profit problems.

Keywords : Homemade wine; Limiting socioeconomic factors.
