Abstract

FROLLA, Franco; ZILIO, J.P.  and  KRUGER, H.. Selección de bandas e índices espectrales relacionados con la profundidad efectiva de los suelos en la región Pampeana Austral de Argentina. RIA. Rev. investig. agropecu. [online]. 2020, vol.46, n.3, pp.404-413. ISSN 1669-2314.

The Pampeana Region, in the southwest of the Buenos Aires province (Argentina), is characterized by the presence of a calcareous subsurface horizon with limiting water retention capacity and root penetration. The objective of the work was to propose and validate a methodology for the selection of satellite images scenes showing high correlation between reflectance and soil depth spatial variation. Six fields under agricultural-livestock production were studied. For them 180-190 layers of information were derived from bands and spectral indices of LANDSAT 5 TM satellite for 1992-2011 periods. In these fields, observations of effective soil depth (PES) were made and scenes showing the highest correlation between reflectance and PES were selected. The model was validated using an independent dataset and error indexes (RMSE, MAE and R.). No supremacy of any band or index was observed across the sites and dates. Sites with low relative PES and values well distributed in the 0-100 cm range obtained higher R. coefficients. The review of long series of satellite LANDSAT 5 TM imagesusing the proposed methodology allowed the identification and selection of scenes with a good reflectance/PES correlation.
