Abstract

GONZALEZ, Ezequiel; SACCHERO, Diego M.  and  EASDALE, M.H.. Variabilidad de la calidad de lanas en la provincia de Río Negro, Argentina. RIA. Rev. investig. agropecu. [online]. 2021, vol.47, n.1, pp.76-81.  Epub May 19, 2021. ISSN 1669-2314.

In the province of Río Negro the production of Merino wool takes place in diverse environmental conditions. In spite of this productive reality, the variability of wool quality at regional scale is unknown. The aim was to determine the parameters that best describe the phenotypic variability of wool quality of establishments located in the province of Río Negro. We used 113 farms located in two natural regions of the province of Río Negro (Western and Eastern Patagonia). We used data from wool samples of Merino sheep of the farms (period 2002-2015) processed by the Laboratorio de Fibras Textiles from the Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA) Bariloche. This data set was analysed with multivariate techniques (Principal Components). The first factorial analysis of Principal Components explained 60.66% of the variability and the most influential parameters were RP, RT, DMF and MV. The farms of Eastern Patagonia registered wools with higher DMF and MV, compared to those located in Western Patagonia. At the same time, most of the farms of Eastern Patagonia indicated wools with lower percentages of RP and RT. The distribution of the farms in the factorial plane suggested possible associations between some parameters of wool quality and the heterogeneity of the environment, which should be studied with more detail in the future.
