Abstract

FERRARI, E. et al. Caracterización morfológica del grano de triticale (x Triticosecale Wittmack) mediante procesamiento y análisis de imágenes digitales. RIA. Rev. investig. agropecu. [online]. 2021, vol.47, n.2, pp.232-239.  Epub Oct 13, 2021. ISSN 1669-2314.

Grain morphology is of interest in crop improvement because of its relationship to yield and quality. With the need for a methodology analysis that allows selection by grain morphological characters in a simple and efficient way, digital image processing and analysis (PAID) was used with the ImageJ program, and grain samples of four triticale genotypes were analyzed under two levels of fertilization. PAID results were evaluated to determine counting accuracy and grain length and width dimensions; and estimate the volume of the grain with the use of geometric approximation and use of constants of proportionality (k); respect of traditional methods. The count obtained with PAID was on average 0.3 grains lower than the manual count, when the digitized image did not show contact between the grains. The grain dimensions achieved with PAID made it possible to characterize very similar genotypes and showed a high correlation with measurements made with a micrometer (length: r = 0.79, p <0.01; width: r = 0.91, p <0.01). The volume estimated by PAID and with the use of k achieved a relative percentage difference, with respect to the volume measured by toluene displacement, between 2.82 to 3.43%. The use of PAID as a methodology to record the number, dimensions and volume of the grain in triticale was feasible, simple and reliable, possible to consider the application of this tool in the morphological characterization of triticale grains.
