Abstract

CASTANARES, Jose L.. Tipburn en hortalizas de hoja en hidroponia: posibles causas y control. RIA. Rev. investig. agropecu. [online]. 2022, vol.48, n.1, pp.3-9.  Epub Apr 06, 2022. ISSN 1669-2314.

Tipburn is a very common physiological disorder in leafy vegetables, characterized by a necrosis at the edge of young leaves associated with poor calcium accumulation. Nutritional imbalance, high temperature, high diurnal and low nocturnal relative humidity, high radiation and high growth rates predispose to this disorder. In very intensive production systems, such as hydroponics, the rate of occurrence of this damage is usually very important. Also, control, in such production systems, is usually more difficult compared to field production. The objective of this review is to list the main known causes of tipburn in hydroponics and some possible alternatives for its prevention.

Keywords : calcium; nutritional imbalance; cellular wall; leaf necrosis; intensive cultivation.
