Abstract
BLANCO, Daniel. El "Alfabeto" y la "Gramática" de la Geología: Analogías y metáforas en la estrategia persuasiva de Lyell. Enfoques [online]. 2008, vol.20, n.1, pp.5-29. ISSN 1669-2721.
With the publication of Principles of Geology, Lyell tried to improve on the reputation of Geology by advocating a truce with religion and presenting uniformitarianism (term coined by Whewell, one of Lyell's most respected critics) as a heuristic strategy. After a brief conceptual clarification, this contribution discusses some cases, particularly analogies and metaphors, which illustrate the large group of rhetorical resources which Lyell used to accomplish that ultimately-not instantly-most of his ideas become convincing to the ears of his scientific community peers.
