Abstract

VANNEY, Alejandra. Religión, identidad y razón ilustrada. Enfoques [online]. 2012, vol.24, n.2, pp.63-75. ISSN 1669-2721.

In our days, religion is linked with violence. On the other hand, religion has always presented itself as wisdom of peace. This article affirms that one of the main causes for the lacking of peace, or its loss, is the gradual decrease in social identity, the crucial element of social and political unity. Religion is the component by excellence that shapes the personal life, and has during centuries given solid foundations for a more or less peaceful ordo orbis. Currently, due to this longing for peace many theories about the role of religion had emerged yet many of them are mere procedures. Thus, they can only give an apparent "exterior peace" not enough to reach social cohesion. Amongst those contemporary solutions portrayed, Habermas's is distinguished in the paper, but although his interest in the role religion his vision seems not depth enough because he considers religion as mere functional.

Keywords : Religion; Identity; Religion and modern State; Peace; Habermas.
