This article is intended to succinctly present the main features of the methodological approach developed by Pierre Rosanvallon. We shall examine both his criticisms to the prevailing conceptions of the history of ideas and his efforts devoted to overcoming the weaknesses of the traditional interpretative cannon and to delve into the historical nature of ideas.
