Abstract

DILEO, Estefanía. History of Science and its Alternative Interpretations: The Case of Classic Political Economy. Enfoques [online]. 2019, vol.31, n.1, pp.119-141. ISSN 1669-2721.

The purpose of the present investigation is to think about the relevance of history of science, analyzing the facts of the past in its own terms but with the enrichment that the present can give to the historian. In particular, it explores the possibility of identifying the problem that occurs when the widely accepted historical story distorts, at some point, the facts of the past. To illustrate this problem, the case of classical political economy is presented. According to this, the main hypothesis of this paper is that the successors of David Ricardo misinterpreted their developments. In consequence, his work appears distorted in the history of the economic thought.

Keywords : History of science; Whig interpretation; History of the economic thought; Classical political economy; David Ricardo.
