Abstract

ROMERO, Juan. Distribución territorial de las ocupaciones de los jóvenes rurales en el Uruguay. Rev. argent. sociol. [online]. 2008, vol.6, n.11, pp.192-216. ISSN 1669-3248.

This paper analyzes the impact of employment dynamics on the Uruguayan rural youth, in order to draw some preliminar y conclusions and identify the main characteristics of this sector and its geographical differences. The research also seeks to discuss the usefulness of the notion of «new rurality,» due to the interest it has aroused over the last years as regards the object of study. The dynamics studied on rural employment traces new interrelations between the urban and rural space, with new territorial dynamics. The data gathered would indicate that this social process is heterogeneous in Uruguay and has differential impact according to age groups. The conclusions show that the use of the "new rurality" approach cannot be applied equally for all rural regions in Uruguay, and more importantly, that the generational factor opens a whole new analytical perspective.

Keywords : Dynamic occupational; Rural youth; Agrarian modernization; Rural nonfarm employment; Rural territory.
