Abstract

BILLOROU, María José. Mothers and doctors around the cradle: Practices and ideas about the child care. (Buenos Aires, 1930-1945). Aljaba [online]. 2007, vol.11, pp.167-192. ISSN 1669-5704.

In Buenos Aires, in the middle of the decade de 1930 with the creation of the Sociedad de Puericultura, the action developed by the Dirección de Protección a la Primera Infancia from 1908 inside the Asistencia Pública, was intensified. The decrease of infant mortality, principal objective of the both institution's work, it was achieved through perfomance a children's protection program. The dispensaries and the Institutes of Puericultura, turned in the spaces of everyday meeting between puericultores, mothers and sons, where penetrated a complex and fickle reality which exceeded the medical and educative attendance, consolidated welfare and splited the valid maternal ideal.
