Abstract

SANDRIGO, G. et al. Behavior o f the technical ELISA of competition in the diagnosis of equine infectious anemia (EIA). Rev. vet. [online]. 2021, vol.32, n.2, pp.192-195. ISSN 1669-6840.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/vet.3225741.

EIA is a disease caused by a specific virus of equines, it can frequently induce considerable morbidity and mortality and infected animals will remain in this condition for the rest of their lives. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the ELISAc technique in comparison with the IDGA for the serological diagnosis of EIA in equines from endemic areas of northeastern Argentina. The work was carried out with 94 equine samples from different establishments in northeastern Argentina, an area where the disease is endemic. The diagnosis was carried out by means of the IDGA technique and then by the competition ELISAc technique. The receiver operativo characteristic and concordance analysis was carried out. Results obtained were 66 negative and 28 positive in each of the techniques. The concordances between the ELISAc technique, comparing it with the reference IDGA technique with a confidence level of 95%, yielded a Kappa coefficient of 0,89. The ROC analysis between IDGA and ELISAc revealed that with a sensitivity (Se) of 100% and a specificity (Sp) of 95,45% of the 28 samples positive for IDGA, 26 were positive for ELISAc. For this technique, the area under curve (AUC) obtained was 0,997, and the Youden index 0,95, demonstrating that it is an effective tool for the diagnosis of EIA. The importance of having an effective and rapid screening diagnosis represented by the use of ELISAc as a daily routine technique, would be an improvement in the fight of EIA around the world.
