Abstract

MURCIA, V.N. et al. Brucella suis and Aujeszky's virus in swine farms of the La Pampa province, Argentina. Rev. vet. [online]. 2022, vol.33, n.1, pp.53-56. ISSN 1669-6840.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/vet.3315880.

Farmers raising until 10 sows in production represent at 80% of swine farmers in the Province of La Pampa. They are characterized by little technical and low production rates. The aim of this study was detected the presence of Brucella suis and Aujeszky's virus in family pig farms located in Anguil, Uriburu and Catriló, all in the province of La Pampa. A total of 348 blood samples were recollected in two sampling instances. From the first 255 blood samples were collected, only 2.18% (IC: 0.70%, 3.66%), n=8 were positive to Brucella suis representing to 5.78% (IC: 0.00%, 12.77%) of all farms. Thirty-six 13.39% (IC: 9.94%, 16.83% samples) were positive to Aujeszky's virus, representing to 29.59% (IC: 15.93%, 43.26%), n=9 of all farms. In the second instance 93 blood samples were collected representing the total number of animals on the farm. No positive samples for Brucella suis were found and only 15.44% (n=15) of samples were positive to Aujeszky's virus. The outcomes of this study represent a significant advance in health knowledge of family pig farms which is poorly studied in the province. Further studies encourage the use of more rigorous parameters in terms of stratification and characterization of this kind of production systems.
