Abstract

MADREGAL, Carina Miriam. "Those leaves that chew Indians and Spaniards": trade and conflicts around the coca leaf at the end of the viceregal era. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2018, vol.17, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1669-9041.

This article shows the route of the coca leaf, its transit from how it went from being a demonic object to becoming one of the dynamic products of the economy of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. At the end of the 18th century, the economic relevance of coca generated tensions and conflicts between the various social sectors that give an account of the importance of this "green gold" in Rioplatense soil.

Keywords : Viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata; Coca; Commerce; Monopoly.
