Abstract

TABARES QUIROZ, Juliana  and  CORREA VELEZ, Santiago. Technology and society: An approach to social studies of technology. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2014, vol.9, n.26, pp.129-144. ISSN 1850-0013.

This article aims at providing an overview of the different approaches and research programs that have studied technology from a social sciences’ perspective, in order to analyze its configuration and its relation to society and culture. This paper is divided into two sections. The first section presents some disciplinary perspectives that address the social studies of science and technology, such as: the history of technology, the economic evolution, the anthropology of technology and the sociology of technology. The second section presents an in-depth approach to the sociological constructivist perspectives that aid in the analysis of social relationships and the configuration of technological devices. Finally, the authors present a reflection on the impact of such studies in Latin America.
