Abstract

SUTZ, Judith. Quality and relevance in academic research: Notes to move toward convergence. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2014, vol.9, n.27, pp.63-83. ISSN 1850-0013.

This paper discusses the concepts of relevance and quality applied to the academic research. It shows the various meanings of these two concepts and how they are embedded in the conceptions of university and development. The analysis focuses especially on the intimate association between relevance and demand for knowledge and the consequences that flow from it. This article also describes two specific university policy instruments that seek to articulate relevance and quality, in order to display the processes that simultaneously construct the demand for knowledge and the academic and social relevance of research
