Abstract

GALATI, Elvio. Philosophy and Practice In Scientific Research: Knowledge Objectives And Transformation Objectives. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2017, vol.12, n.36, pp.163-183. ISSN 1850-0013.

The work considers the nature of scientific activity, whether it involves knowing the world or changing it, based on reading critical authors such as Karl Marx and Louis Althusser. Hans Gadamer is also challenged. In order to do this, a basic element of the research project is addressed: the "objectives". After defining this element, it is classified as knowledge objectives and transformation objectives, which are tied, on one hand, to the general epistemological stances of Aristotle and Galileo and, on the other, to the traditions of quantitative and qualitative research. Finally, guidelines for a research project are proposed to transform methodological knowledge.

Keywords : Scientific research methodology; Epistemology; Objectives; Theory and practice; Critical school.
