Abstract

BARSKY, Osvaldo. La inconsistencia de los rankings internacionales de las universidades y la debilidad del debate académico en la Argentina. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2018, vol.13, n.37, pp.153-187. ISSN 1850-0013.

In the last few years, the awareness of international university rankings has caused upheavals in he Argentine academic community and university authorities, in addition to becoming massively known in the press. In some cases, a certain weakness of presence in important places among the region’s universities has given rise to confusing explanations and, in others, particularly in private universities, assistance is given to significant efforts that include the allocation of human resources to work towards improving the positions occupied by the universities. But in very few cases have efforts been made towards assessing the aptitude of these types of metrics to measure the quality of university institutions. The intent of this article is to help explain the origin and methodological difficulties of international rankings, and the responses being given by academic communities at an international level, where awareness has been raised regarding the negative impacts of these excessively fragile measurements. The connection to subjects pertaining to national policies on university evaluation and information is also pointed out
