Abstract

KRAMER, G. R et al. Effect of macrostructural morfology in the the corrosion resistance of Al-12%Si alloy in ethanol. An. AFA [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.1, pp.19-23. ISSN 0327-358X.

Nowadays, biofuels industry is at constant growth, and promotes the search and implementation of new technologies on manufacturing and use of these products. Bioethanol is a fuel obtained by fermentation of vegetables rich in sugar. Handling these fuels requires materials such as aluminum, because of its mechanic and electrochemical properties. Those properties can be improved if aluminum is alloyed with other metals, or changing its macrostructural morphology. In the present work, Al-12%Si samples were solidified, and corrosion resistance was tested in every grain structure present in the alloy (columnar, columnar to equiaxed transition, and equiaxed). The samples were exposed to bioethanol during the experiments. Differences were found between the three structures, both in corrosion resistance and electrochemical behavior.

Keywords : Aluminum; Corrosionresistance; ElectrochemicalImpedance Spectroscopy.
