Abstract

SALINAS DOMJAN, C.; FRANCO, D.  and  VALENTE, M.. Computational model and experimental verification of in depth dose performance to generate SPREAD OUT BRAGG PEAKS (SOBP) for intracranial irradiations. An. AFA [online]. 2022, vol.33, n.2, pp.54-58. Abstract This work reports on a computational modeling methodology through Monte Carlo simulations based on the FLUKA code to describe the physical processes in protontherapy irradiations. The corresponding validation by comparisons with experimental data is shown and the SOBP generation procedure applied to intracranial irradiations is described. Promising peformance has been achieved in terms of the good agreements between experimental and simulation data, while the SOBP generation procedure has proved to attain acceptable dose concentration and uniformity, this constituting a promising issue for local control and protection of areas at risk for intracranial applications.

Keywords : Monte Carlo; FLUKA; protontherapy; SOBP.
