Abstract

CASTIGLIONI, Mario Guillermo; BEHRENDS KRAEMER, Filipe  and  MARIA MORRAS, Héctor José. Efecto de la secuencia de cultivos bajo siembra directa sobre la calidad de algunos suelos de la región Pampeana. Cienc. suelo [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.1, pp.93-105. ISSN 1850-2067.

Physical changes in agricultural soils are not only affected by the cultivation system but also by the particular crop sequences and their yields. The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of different crop sequences under no tillage on soil quality, using soil quality indicators in Pampa soils with contrasting textures and mineralogy. The study was carried out in three sites located in: Pergamino (Buenos Aires province), Bengolea (Cordoba province) and Viale (Entre Rios province). Two situations under no-tillage were compared at each site: one with soybean preponderance within the crop rotation (MP), and another one with a more balanced crop rotation in terms of graminae and legumes (BP). Undisturbed areas were used as a reference in each site. The structural stability and various physical parameters derived from the water retention curve, including the physical quality index (S) were determined in the topsoil of each situation. Structural stability proved to be a good parameter to distinguish MP from BP in Bengolea soil. However, in the Vertisol of Viale the physical quality index was the property that best differentiated these two situations. In Pergamino, no differences in the evaluated properties were observed between treatments. From these results, it can be inferred that the increase of soybean proportion in the crop rotation has detrimental effects on different physical soil properties. These effects are expressed to a greater or lesser extent depending on the soil type.
