Abstract

AVECILLA, FERNANDO; RAMIREZ HABERKON, NANCY BELÉN; AIMAR, SILVIA BEATRIZ  and  BUSCHIAZZO, DANIEL EDUARDO. Control de la erosión eólica con un estabilizador artificial en un torripsammente ustico. Cienc. suelo [online]. 2016, vol.34, n.2, pp.349-354. ISSN 1850-2067.

Wind erosion is one of the main soil degradation processes of arid and semi-arid environments. Artificial stabilizers can be used for it control. We analyzed the efficiency of a polyvinyl acetate as a stabilizer for controlling wind erosion in an Ustic Torripsament. We performed a wind tunnel experiment under three stabilizer concentrations (0,5, 2 and10% stabilizer: water ratio) with and without injection of the saltation fraction, two wind speeds (10,5 and 12 m s-1) and two sampling times (5 and 10 minutes). Results indicated that the erosion was lower with all the stabilizer concentrations in relation to the reference without stabilizer. The erosion with concentrations of the stabilizer of 2 and 10% were lower (p <0,05) that to 0,5%, in the treatments with and without saltation. The stabilizer concentration of 2 and 10% maintained low erosion levels in both moments of sampling, which indicates that the crust formed on the soil surface is resistant to the abrasive effect of the particles of saltation. It was deduced that an application of the stabilizer to a concentration of 2% allows to efficiently control the erosion in the soil tested, keeping the soil losses at low levels, for at least 10 minutes, even with high wind velocities. Because the stabilizer has low-cost, low environmental impact and is available on the market, its use to control wind erosion on small surfaces, with engineering purposes in construction, stabilization verges and road surfaces, it is potentially feasible.
