Abstract

ALVAREZ, Lucila  and  NOELLEMEYER, Elke. PHOSPHORUS DYNAMICS WITH LIQUID AND GRANULAR FERTILZER IN SOILS OF THE SEMIARID PAMPAS. Cienc. suelo [online]. 2022, vol.40, n.1, pp.38-48.  Epub Apr 20, 2023. ISSN 1850-2067.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the application of a liquid and a granulated phosphorous (P) fertilizer on the availability of P under two conditions of soil moisture, in soils of different positions in the Calcareous Plain landscape of the Central Semiarid Region (RSC). An incubation test was carried out with liquid polyphosphate (PL) and with triple superphosphate (SPT) in soil from top-slope, mid-slope (Petrocalcic Paleustoll) and foot-slope (Typic Haplustoll) environments. Subsequently, a greenhouse experiment was carried out using the same soils with PL and SPT fertilization on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), with (H2) and without (H1) soil moisture limitation. In the first experiment the advantage of PL was limited to the top-slope position, with lower organic carbon (CO) and higher calcium saturation, compared to the foot-slope position where no differences between sources were observed. In the greenhouse experiment, under H1, a clear advantage of PL was not observed, while when moisture was limiting, PL favoured the production of dry matter only in top-slope and mid-slope soil. The use of PL would be recommended in calcareous soils with a low level of CO and high calcium saturation, in conditions where edaphic moisture is limiting. An adequate level of CO could contribute to improve the efficiency in the use of P fertilizers.
