Abstract

COWAN ROS, Carlos  and  NUSSBAUMER, Beatriz. "Indigenous community": contested of meanings. Cuad. antropol. soc. [online]. 2013, n.37, pp.109-137. ISSN 1850-275X.

The paper analyses different meanings of community attributed by both agents involved in indigenous issues -in particular representatives of public institutions- and members of six villages of the Puna (Jujuy-Argentina) belonging to the kolla ethnic group. Given by reference the representations and practices of the villagers that allow the reconstruction of their meaning of community, the authors reflect on the convergences and divergences with the dominant representations of the public institutions as well as on certain areas of feedback in meanings' production between both spheres. Finally, we discuss certain aspects of the indigenous legislation that might not correlate with the modes of indigenous communities' reproduction and thus, could restrict the rights of their members.

Keywords : Community; Indigenous; Public Policies; Significance; Puna jujeña.
