Abstract

PIRES, Lenin. “Informal markets” and the tolerance management: polithical commodities and the relationships between society and State. Cuad. antropol. soc. [online]. 2020, n.51, pp.135-152. ISSN 1850-275X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.34096/cas.i51.7673.

This paper starts from the proposition to look at the relationships that can be classified as passing between the legal-illegal axis from a perspective of the interests of the actors in society and how they possibly get involved with the interests of actors in street vending regulation agencies in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. Assuming that it is about different “legal sensibilities”, in Geertz's terms, what is poses is also to look at the police as subjects who are at the two poles of the equation, although with the advantage of the exercise of violence. This situation enables, in many cases - in front of the configurations between interests, trusts and reputations shared - to carry out different ways of earning a living.

Keywords : Street vendor; Regulation; Tolerance; Society; Police.
