Abstract

MERCURI, Cecilia. Quebrada Alta Estructura 1 Lithic Assemblages: Early Shepherds From Santa Rosa De Los Pastos Grandes, Puna Of Salta. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2008, n.9, pp.187-196. ISSN 1850-373X.

Within the framework of the doctoral project Social Interaction Networks in the Early Period in the Puna of Salta Province, an analysis of the lithic material of Quebrada Alta Estructura 1 (QA- E1) site, located in Santa Rosa de los Pastos Grandes Basin, the Puna of Salta Province, dated to ca. 1488 BP, are presented. The aim of this paper is to present general tendencies of the lithic assemblage, focusing on raw material provenience, as the only non-local rocks detected are obsidians. Of additional interest is the exploration of regularities in techno-morfological attributes such as base form, relative size, length-width module and striking platform to characterize patterns of production and use in the assemblages. This paper aims to contribute to existing knowledge of the artefactual assemblages of early pastoralist societies.

Keywords : Lithic assemblages; Early shepherds; Foreign obsidians.
