Abstract

FIGUEROA, Germán G.. The Agricultural Systems Of The Ambato Valley During The Sixth To Eleventh Centuries AD. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2008, n.9, pp.313-317. ISSN 1850-373X.

The results obtained from surveys carried out in 2006 and 2007 in the Ambato Valley, Department of Ambato, Catamarca, are presented in this paper. The main objective is to describe and analyze the agricultural systems that functioned in this valley from the sixth through eleventh centuries AD. In addition, data for the study of the use of agricultural space in a context of social inequality are included. The data obtained confirm that unirrigated agriculture was mainly practiced during this period, made possible by an infrastructure designed to reduce the risks of production loss and guarantee food supplies.

Keywords : Aguada; Use of space; Agricultural systems.
