Abstract

BABOT, María del Pilar et al. FORMATION AND TRANSFORMATION DYNAMICS OF A DESERT BURIAL FROM ANTOFAGASTA DE LA SIERRA, SOUTHERN ARGENTINEAN PUNA. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.2, pp.183-201. ISSN 1850-373X.

An agropastoralist burial within Structure 1 of Punta de la Peña 9 site, Sector I, from Antofagasta de la Sierra, Southern Argentinean Puna is analyzed. The burial is studied from a dynamic point of view, one that enables the exploration of several natural and cultural processes -both deliberate and random- that shaped the context. A multidisciplinary approach is used, integrating several lines of evidence that include bioanthropological, archaeobotanical, zooarchaeological, ceramic, stratigraphic, lithic stone tool techno-typological, and mineral sample compositional analyses. As a result, thirteen dynamic formation and transformation processes that include removal, addition and extraction of human parts, ecofacts and artefacts, are identified.
