Abstract
BASTOURRE, María Laura and SALAZAR SICILIANO, Giovanna. Archaeofaunal analysis of sitio 5, Tapera Moreira locality, department of Lihué Calel, La Pampa province. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.1, pp.269-280. ISSN 1850-373X.
This article presents the results of the zooarchaeological analysis of the assemblage recovered at Sitio 5, Tapera Moreira locality. The intervention of natural and cultural agents in the formation of the faunal assemblage is analyzed in order to discuss its taphonomic history. In addition, some of the patterns observed are compared with those previously studied from the upper component of Sitio 1 in the same locality. The most abundant species at the site and the only taxon which shows clear evidence of anthropic processing is Lama guanicoe. Based on the available evidence it is not possible to draw conclusions about the role of other taxa in the economy of Pampean hunters. Contrary to both what was expected for a multiple activity site and to what was found at Sitio 1, the skeletal parts of guanaco that are most abundant at Sitio 5 correspond to those which are less valuable in economic terms. Several factors that could explain this skeletal profile are explored. The information presented here constitutes novel evidence from an area where there are scarce zooarchaeological findings. Hence, this paper improves understanding of both the acquisition and processing of faunal resources in the area of Curacó basin and the natural and cultural agents prevalent in the formation of this archaeological site within the study area.
