Abstract

CORNEJO, Luis; FERNANDA FALABELLA, B; SANHUEZA, Lorena  and  CORREA, Itací. Settlement pattern during the early Ceramic period in the Santiago basin, Central Chile: A view at the local level. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.2, pp.449-460. ISSN 1850-373X.

This paper presents the methodology and results of intensive surface surveys carried out in the southern Santiago Basin, focused on the locality, a scale of analysis not previously undertaken in archeological studies of Central Chile. The settlement pattern point out to a high concentration of Early Ceramic Period domestic occupations, followed by less intense occupations during the Late Ceramic Period. These occupations were linked to the availability in this locality of surface water resources and reflect a way of occupying space defined by scattered domestic units , in whose vicinity were other domestic units, although not necessarily connected socially.

Keywords : Central Chile; Ceramic Period; Pedestrian survey; Surface surveys; Locality.
