Abstract

ANDREONI, Diego Fernando. Explotación de recursos leñosos en el monte mendocino: el caso del sitio arqueológico Agua de los Caballos-1 (departamento de San Rafael). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.1, pp.253-269. ISSN 1850-373X.

This paper aims to assess whether the intensification processes proposed for southern Mendoza are reflected in the anthracological record of Agua de los Caballos1 site (Monte), which has evidence of occupation covering the last 1200 years. Furthermore, results are integrated with bibliographical data about carpological remains recovered in order to evaluate plant selection strategies represented by one or other type of record in relation to their different applications. The anthracological study consisted in the analysis of 448 charcoal remains distributed through 17 stratigraphical levels. Sixteen taxa were identified, all native to the Monte area. Limited temporal changes observed along ACA-1 sequence ruled out the occurrence of intensification processes similar to those registered at Arroyo Malo 3, where an increase in diversity during the late Holocene, the addition of roots to the stem use of some taxa, along with the introduction of foreign taxa is observed. Finally, it is noted that taxa with good fuel but low edible value (Larrea, Bulnesia) are poorly represented within the carpological record, while others with good fuel and high nutritional value (Prosopis, Geoffroea) are poorly represented at the anthracological level but not the carpological.
