Abstract
DI PRADO, Violeta. Primeras etapas de elaboración cerámica en Los Tres Cerros 1 (Victoria, Entre Ríos): Caracterización mediante petrografía de pastas. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2016, vol.17, suppl.1, pp.23-32. ISSN 1850-373X.
Despite of the characteristic abundance and diversity of the pre-Hispanic ceramic record from the Upper Delta of Parana River, there are few detailed studies of the pottery production process. This paper presents the first results of petrography of vessels recovered from the Los Tres Cerros 1 stratigraphic site (located in the Upper Delta of Paraná River, Entre Ríos Province), occupied between ca. 1030 and 560 years BP. During the first production step, clayey raw material with inclusions of similar composition (i.e., monocrystalline quartz, feldspars, micas and opaque minerals) were selected. During the clay preparation stage, some differences were found, mostly in reference to the degree of kneading and the addition of variable amounts of grog. The decision of adding grog was identified in vessels with different morphology: bowls, slightly restricted vessel and a possible "campana". This practice could be conditioned by technical as well as symbolic constraints, and lasted in Los Tres Cerros 1 for at least 500 years. From a macroregional perspective, grog addition it has been recorded on ceramics from sites located at different areas of Northeast Region and Humid Pampas.
