Abstract
BARBOZA, María Carolina. Ocupaciones prehispánicas en la margen izquierda del Paraná medio (Goya, Corrientes, Argentina): Análisis zooarqueológico. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2016, vol.17, suppl.1, pp.57-69. ISSN 1850-373X.
This paper presents the results achieved so far, of the analysis of the faunal assemblage recovered from two sites locates in mainstream adjacent islands of Middle Paraná river (Goya, Corrientes, Argentina). The objective is to evaluate the formation of the archaeofaunal record, and provide valuable insights into the consumption of faunal resources by populations that inhabited the area during the late Holocene. For this purpose, the properties of the assemblages were compared to each other. The taphonomic aspects of the faunal remains were explored. Also, anatomic and taxonomic composition of the assemblages was estimated, and processing evidences were observed. The results show that the faunal accumulation in both sites is mainly anthropic. Direct evidence of exploitation has been observed -i.e., anthropic fractures and cut marks-, as well as indirect evidence -taxonomic diversity, skeletal-part representation and patterns of burning damage-. Other taphonomic processes that leaved macroscopic alterations where related to the hydrophilic environment, in which the materials were found. Although the state of preservation of the archeofaunal assemblages was bad, the data generated shows anthropic exploitation of aquatic animals and terrestrial animals that have a life-cycle that is partly dependent on being in water (i.e. fish and rodents), during the late Holocene.
