Abstract

ZARATE, Marcelo. Estado actual de la Geoarqueología en la Argentina. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2016, vol.17, suppl.2, pp.7-18. ISSN 1850-373X.

During the last 20 years, Geoarchaeology experienced a remarkable development in Argentina. The main goals of the present paper are to evaluate the state of the art, and the future perspectives of geoarchaeological studies. With this purpose in mind, techniques and methodologies of Earth Sciences used in Archaeology are examined based on selected papers. The discussion is organized according to the main disciplines of the Earth Sciences (Geomorphology, Sedimentology-Stratigraphy, Petrology-Geochemistry, Pedology, Geophysics, Geochronology) used in archaeological studies. The review and analysis indicate the consolidation of Geoarchaeology as a methodological approach along with an increase in the geoscientist-archaeologist interaction. Environmental changes induced by present and past human activities considered within the framework of the Anthropocene, foresee the future strengthening of geoarchaeological research, and the development of the studies with a transdisciplinary, integrated approach.

Keywords : Geoarchaeology; Earth Sciences; Anthropocene; Argentina.
